DISTANT VIEW 2YOs OF 2001
Distant View’s two-year-olds of 2001 have shown a great deal of
promise. He has already had 2YO winners in the USA, England,
Ireland and France.
His first two-year-old starter was the winner Distant Mist (C,
Sage Mist by Capote) who won the Snelsmore Maiden Stakes at
Lingfield, England on 3-31-01. He won on the all-weather surface at
Lingfield. The Racing Post had this to say about him, “Distant
Mist, a well-bred individual, looked ready for the race and won a
shade cosily.” Distant Mist was bred by Ken Tomlinson, is owned by
Swan Horse Racing and is trained by Jeremy Noseda.
On 5-24-01, Joni Gala (F, Honey League Girl by Honey Jay) won
her first start in a 4.5-furlong maiden race at Calder, in the USA.
Joni Gala missed the break, but accelerated nicely in the short
race to take command and withstand a challenge from the second
place finisher. She has since moved into allowance company. She is
a full sister to the winner Maui Girl. Joni Gala was bred and is
owned by Gary Aiken and is trained by Manuel Azpurua.
Dulce de Leche (C, Bien Sucre by Ends Well) won his first start
on 5-25-01, a 5.5-furlong race at Chantilly, France. Dulce de Leche
challenged the long-term leader one furlong out and turned down the
renewed challenge of that competitor. The colt finished second in
the Prix la Fleche (LR) in his next start, showing the same grit to
challenge the winner in the last 100 yards. He also competed in the
Gr.1 Prix Morny at Deauville won by the leading juvenile in Europe.
Dulce de Leche was bred by Berkshire Stud, et. al., is owned by Joe
Allbritton and is trained by R. Gibson.
Lemon Haze (F, Raise a Dynasty by Raise a Native) won a
6-furlong maiden race on 8-19-01 at Arlington International, in the
USA. She led that race from the start and drew clear in the finish
to win by almost three lengths. Lemon Haze was bred by Charles
Nuckols, et. al., is owned by Mount Joy Stables and is trained by
Gene Cilio.
Splanc (C, Big E Dream by Persian Bold) won a 7-furlong maiden
race at the Curragh in Ireland on 9-2. He was strongly pressured
but showed courage to win. He had already run in the Gr.2 Anglesey
Stakes at the Curragh. Splanc was bred, and is owned and trained by
J. S. Bolger.
