DR. BRENDLER WINS IRISH 2,000 GUINEAS TRIAL
Dr. Brendler (98 colt by Distant View out of Lady of Vision by
Vision) won the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial Stakes (LR)
defeating Derivative by a neck. The heavily-favored Mozart was a
well-beaten third.
His trainer, John Hayden, said after the race, “He’s a big, rangy
colt, and should make improvement through the season. He will go
next for the Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh, and then hopefully the
Guineas and Derby. Fran [jockey Fran Berry] thinks he should stay
at least ten furlongs.”
The Racing Post analysis said, “Dr. Brendler, a useful maiden last
season when he finished second in a Group 3 event here on his final
start, wore down long-time leader Mozart over a furlong out and was
always doing enough to hold the renewed effort of Derivative, who
fought back doggedly in the closing stages having looked well held
at the distance.”
Dr. Brendler was bred and is owned by Francis
O’Toole.
