DECARCHY WINS Gr.2 KILROE H.
Decarchy won the Gr.2 Kilroe Mile Handicap, prevailing by a neck
over Sarafan with Designed for Luck a head back in third. He
defeated a field that included Val Royal (winner of the 2001
Breeders’ Cup Mile) and multiple Graded SW Irish Prize. Decarchy
ran the mile on the firm turf in 1:34.04.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux settled Decarchy after breaking from the
outside post. On the final turn, he swung Decarchy to the outside
and closed ground to nail Sarafan in the closing strides. “I had so
much horse that I thought I could go by [Designed for Luck] any
time I wanted to,” said Desormeaux. “Then, finally, Decarchy
switched leads and found another gear and lo and behold, he got
there. It was a very, very game win.”
With the winning purse of $180,000 Decarchy has now won $439,653
with six wins in nine career starts. In his last start, he won the
Gr.3 Tanforan Handicap. Decarchy has won four of five starts in the
U.S. after beginning his career in England.
Decarchy is the third Graded SW Toussaud (a Gr.1 winning
daughter of El Gran Senor) has produced. Her first foal is Gr.1
winner Chester House (standing at Juddmonte Farms) and her second
in the Gr.1 winning filly Honest Lady.
Decarchy’s sire, Distant View, now has five SWs from 59 foals in
his first crop (8%). They include Champions Distant Music and
Observatory and Graded SWs Fateful Dream and Decarchy. The fifth SW
(and Graded stakes-placed to Champion Kona Gold) is the brilliantly
fast sprinter Explicit.
