SIGHTSEEK WINS THIRD G1 IN A ROW

Anyone who had already conceded Azeri with a second straight Breeders’ Cup Distaff and division championship may be having second thoughts after watching Sightseek (Distant View) win her third straight Grade 1. She crushed five competitors by 11 ½ lengths in the Go For Wand Handicap at Saratoga.

The Go For Wand was Sightseek’s most impressive performance. Allowed to settle just off the slow pace of Gr.1 winner Miss Linda, Sightseek assumed command approaching the quarter pole, and then steadily drew off while never being put to a drive by Bailey through the stretch.

Her jockey, Jerry Bailey, said, “She did it on her own. I thought that it was cool that she could relax off the pace; I was a little concerned about that. She got to that other filly on her own. She did what she was supposed to do against this field.”

“She was nice and relaxed all the way,” said trainer Bobby Frankel. “She’s a very classy filly. Her record speaks for itself [seven wins in 11 starts]. She’s just too good for those fillies today although I’m a little surprised at how easily she won.” Frankel added, “Azeri can come here if she wants. I’m not going to duck her. The purses are bigger here, so I am going to stay on the East Coast. I may run her back at Belmont [Gr.1 Ruffian Handicap on September 13 or the Gr.1 Beldame Handicap on October 4 are being considered].”
