THE CLASSIC CONNECTION

The 2004 Classic season is over and the books of Juddmonte Farms’ stallions are rife with connections to classic-caliber performers.

Bachelor Duke (Miswaki/Gossamer) won the Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas. Gossamer, a daughter of Seattle Slew, is in Distant View’s 2004 book.

Swingforthefences (Boston Harbor/Varnish) finished second in the Gr.2 Peter Pan Stakes. Varnish, a daughter of Cox’s Ridge, has a yearling filly by Aptitude.

Haafhd (Alhaarth/Al Bahathri) won the Gr.1 English 2000 Guineas. Al Bahathri’s full sister Chain Fern (dam of Gr.1 winner Spanish Fern) is in Mizzen Mast’s 2004 book.

Birdstone (Grindstone/Dear Birdie) won the Gr.1 Belmont Stakes on June 5th. His half-sister Bird Town (by Cape Town and winner of the 2003 Gr.1 Kentucky Oaks) is in Empire Maker’s 2004 book. Another half-sister, Dearest Gulch (by Gulch), is in Aptitude’s 2004 book.

Grey Swallow (Daylami/Style of Life) won the Gr.1 Irish Derby. His half-sister Rustic (Grand Lodge) has a filly foal by Chester House.

Illustrious Miss (Kingmambo/Our Wildirish Rose) won the Gr.3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes on May 8th and finished third in the Gr.1 Irish 1000 Guineas. Her half-sister Ya Salam (Grand Slam) is in Aptitude’s 2004 book.

Yeats (Sadler’s Wells/Lyndonville) was an early favorite for the Gr.1 Derby and winner of the Gr.2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes. His half-sister Anchored in Love (Alzao) is in Distant View’s 2004 book.

Island Sand (Tabasco Cat/Sue’s Last Dance) won the Gr.1 Acorn Stakes, the first leg of the New York Racing Association’s Triple Tiara. Sue’s Last Dance’s half-sister Dance to Reason (Devil’s Bag) is in Aptitude’s 2004 book.
