OASIS ON TOP OF THE
WORLD
Rated the top two-year-old in the 2002 International
Classifications, OASIS DREAM has been rated the top sprinter in the
world in 2003. The triple Group 1 winner by Green Desert and
half-brother to Classic winner Zenda (by ZAMINDAR) is out of a
full-sister to Irish Oaks winner and dam of BEAT HOLLOW, Wemyss
Bight. Having retired to Banstead Manor in November, OASIS DREAM
has proved exceptionally popular amongst breeders and it was
unsurprising that the ‘full’ sign went up against his name even
before the December sales were in full swing.
OASIS DREAM was also named Champion sprinter at the BHB awards
luncheon alongside other awards for the Juddmonte team that
included Champion British raced two-year-old for Three Valleys and
HRH Prince Khalid Abdullah as Champion owner.
It was not just OASIS DREAM who starred in the classifications
though, as Zafeen, a son of ZAMINDAR’s full-brother Zafonic was
named Champion 3-y-o mile colt. His finest moment came when winning
the often reputed future ‘sires’ race, the St. James’s Palace
Stakes at Royal Ascot, beating Kalaman by 1 length.
Banstead Manor’s only other sire with runners to date is the
European Champion Broodmare sire of 2003, RAINBOW QUEST. Broodmare
sire in 2003 of Group 1 performers Kris Kin, Rakti, Cosmo Sunbeam,
France, Macaw, Polish Summer, Powerscourt and Sardaukar, he led the
table from Darshaan and Sadler’s Wells, the latter some £900,000
off the pace. Also sire of 7 individual stakes winners in 2003
including Gr.2 winners Millenary and Moon Search and the Gr.1 2-y-o
performer Simplex, RAINBOW QUEST enjoyed another fine year.
2004 promises to be a very exciting year for Banstead Manor
Stallions. DANSILI, the multiple Group winning and 7 times Gr.1
placed son of Danehill has his first crop of 2-y-o runners. There
are 93 on the ground and under the watchful eyes of Gr.1 winning
trainers such as Richard Hannon, Roger Charlton, Sir Michael
Stoute, Andre Fabre, Henry Cecil, John Gosden, Barry Hills,
Criquette Head-Maarek, Mick Channon, James Fanshawe, Amanda
Perrett, Andrew Balding, Marcus Tregoning, Paul Cole, Clive
Brittain, Ed Dunlop, Neville Callaghan, Brian Meehan, William
Jarvis, Mick Easterby, Pascal Bary, Michael Bell, Fulke Johnson
Houghton, etc. Of these there are half’s to black-type performing
juveniles including Landseer (Coventry stakes winner and subsequent
Classic winner), Wharf (July Stakes), Bannister (Gimcrack Stakes),
Winter Solstice (2nd Prix d’Aumale), Salcombe (2nd Acomb Stakes),
Illustrator (3rd Racing Post Trophy).
OBSERVATORY, the World Champion Miler in 2000 has his first crop
yearlings whilst Multiple Group 1 winner, BEAT HOLLOW has first
crop foals. ZAMINDAR, the full brother to Zafonic and sire of a
Classic winner in his first crop has his first foals since his
return from America, so there is plenty to look forward to for
supporters of Banstead Manor Stallions.
