APTITUDE COLT TOPS OBSC SALE
The rain did indeed fall steadily all
afternoon, and it was not the only forecast to come true. Many had
predicted that buyers would have to dig deeper into their pockets
to pay for top-end horses compared with the sale’s opening day, and
this also proved to be true. Topping the Tuesday session at
$375,000 was an APTITUDE colt out of the Group 3-placed
winning Wolf Power (SAf) mare Wolfer. The gray or roan colt,
consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent, worked impressively in the
undertack show going a quarter-mile in :21.60. This show of speed,
coupled with his physical traits, attracted bloodstock agent Tom
McCrocklin, who signed the ticket for owners Lawana and Robert
Low.
“The colt worked very fast and really looks like a horse that has
twoturn potential and his sire, APTITUDE, wanted to run all day,”
McCrocklin said. “We’re not looking for a three-quarter-mile horse
in July.”
The colt will be shipped to Belmont Park, where the Springfield,
Missouri-based couple has a string of horses with trainer Danny
Peitz. The Lows have campaigned such standouts as 1996 Test Stakes
(G1) winner Capote Belle and Real Cozzy, whom Peitz trained to a
secondplace finish in the 2001 Kentucky Oaks (G1).—Lea
