ALL THE SIGNS ARE GOOD
As expected, APTITUDE’s progeny have begun to make a
big splash as they enter the deep waters of the trail leading to
the Kentucky Derby, Gr. 1. With several of his sons on the
Derby trail, it is SKY DIVING’s and STEPPENWOLFER’s 3 year
old campaigns that have made the news in recent weeks.
On February 25, 2006, STEPPENWOLFER made a fantastic showing to
finish second in the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Steve
Haskin, of the Blood-Horse, had the following to say after
this.
“One horse with whom we can start seriously thinking Derby right
now is Steppenwolfer, who is progressing beautifully and improving
with every race for trainer Dan Peitz. The son of
APTITUDE looks to
have all the tools. He’s bred to run all day and possesses a
powerful kick that he can use anywhere during a race. He was forced
to go four-wide turning for home, and after switching leads
smoothly, he made a couple of runs at Lawyer Ron, but simply wasn’t
sharp enough at a mile against a brilliant horse who had been on an
unchallenged lead for most of the race.”.
Likewise, SKY DIVING’s pursuit of a stakes win ended only a
fraction short as he scored second in the Turf Paradise Derby on
February 11, 2006. As the distance and pace of the races pick
up, these colts’ impressive beginnings are sure to be expanded
upon, following in the success of their sire
APTITUDE.
