THE BLOOD-HORSE MARKETWATCH
In an annual analysis of second-crop sires, The Blood-Horse
MarketWatch compares how these sires rank by their cumulative
lifetime progeny earnings with how they ranked at the end of last
year by their first-crop’s earnings. Based on his 2005 ranking,
Aptitude was 20th
among the top 70 North American sires. Aptitude has jumped from 20th by
first-crop money to third by cumulative earnings. From his first
crop to race (threeyear- olds of 2006), Aptitude has seven stakes horses
(runners that either have won or placed in stakes), including the
recently stakes-placed Mila’s Fame and Moka Jumbie. He is tied as
the fifth-leading second-crop sire by number of stakes horses along
with Ecton Park and Trippi. El Corredor is first with 10 stakes
horses, followed by City Zip, Five Star Day, and Songandaprayer,
who are tied for second-place with eight apiece.
A son of A. P. Indy, Aptitude also ranks fifth among
sires by number of runners earning $100,000 or more, tied with
Broken Vow, Ecton Park, and Five Star Day, all of whom have four
runners. Aptitude’s
runners’ average lifetime earnings of $33,357 is good enough for an
eighth-place ranking in this category among sires with 10 or more
runners from their first-crop.
To date, Aptitude’s most successful
runners include Steppenwolfer and Amandatude. Steppenwolfer, who
finished third in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr.
I), has been out of the money only once this year when he finished
fourth in the Belmont Stakes (gr.I). Amandatude has one stakes win
and three second place finishes in stakes competition as a
3-year-old, including the Delaware Oaks (gr. II).
