LATE ZAFONIC STILL SIRING GRADED WINNERS.
The late Zafonic gained another Graded winner on Sunday night when his three-year-old daughter Attima (ex Guarded) won the Gr.2 Honeymoon Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Hollywood Park.
The filly, who was second in the Gr.3 Prix La Rochette last year, maintained her unbeaten record in North America with a length and a quarter victory over the Foxysox (Foxhound) with Proxenia (Pursuit Of Love) in third, a 1-2-3 for British-bred fillies. Attima is Guarded’s 1st foal and her second is a 2yo colt by Zamindar – called San Domenico and is in training with Pascal Bary.
Zafonic was also the sire of the Danish Derby winner Kilbarri, who won his Classic by two and a half lengths. The three-year-old, who was bred by Gainsborough Stud Management and was bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 20,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale, comes from the family of multiple Oaks winner Diminuendo.
