BOLDNESS PAYS OFF
The Dubai sunshine may have opened all sorts of doors for the Stan Moore trained Dont Dili Dali (Dansili), who came from last to first to blitz Frankie Dettori and co in the Masaka Stakes and record a fractionally faster time over the mile than Asset an hour later.
Dettori rode an enterprising race on runner-up Song Of Silence, who had pinched a three-length lead early in the straight. But John Egan had to be even bolder on Dont Dili Dali, who was still last with two to run. Once Egan found Dont Dili Dali's top gear, they sprinted past Dettori.
Moore, who was on a stag weekend in Portugal, where, apparently, he shouted himself hoarse watching the race on television, took Dont Dili Dali to Dubai this winter, where his filly ran her best race to be third in the UAE Oaks.
Moore's wife, Sara, said "She's getting better and better as she grows into her frame. She was only coming right on her final run in Dubai and is much happier now. There are some fancy entries for her like the Italian Oaks and the Irish 1000 Guineas, so we have a few options for her."
Dont Dili Dali's dam, Miss Meltemi, finished third in the Italian Oaks, which would seem the likely target for her first foal.
