CACIQUE WINS MAN O WAR GRADE 1
Cacique who has produced a string of distinguished efforts
since arriving in America from France this year, gained another
fine victory in Saturdays Man O War at Belmont to leave connections
considering the Breeders’ Cup.
Owned by Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms and now trained by
Bobby Frankel, Cacique had won the Manhattan Handicap at the same
track in June. He was ridden close to the
rail by Edgar Prado and showed a sharp turn of foot to sneak
through a gap in the home straight, running away for a length and
three quarters victory over the closing Go Deputy, also clocking a
decent time.
”The way he trains in the morning, he never impresses you, so
it’s hard to get high on him,” said Frankel.
”In the afternoon, when you put him on the grass, he
accelerates. This might have been his best race yet. There
was more speed today. I’m thinking about the Breeders’ Cup.
The way he finished how could he finish any
faster?”
