PASSAGE OF TIME SCOOPS FINAL GROUP ONE
DANSILI's magnificent season continued
yesterday with the success of his juvenile daughter Passage of Time
in the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud over 1m2f. She provided her
trainer Henry Cecil with his first Gr.1 victory for six years,
proving too strong in the closing stages for Aidan O’Brien’s colt
Soldier of Fortune (Galileo), with Mark Johnston’s Empire Day
(Lomitas) three lengths adrift in third.
Juddmonte’s Beat Hollow was Cecil’s last Gr.1 winner in the 2000
Grand Prix de Paris and, appropriately, Passage of Time carries the
same colours as her predecessor at Warren Place. This was her third
victory from four starts – she lost her maiden tag at Newmarket in
August, before returning to land the Listed Montrose Fillies’
Stakes by five lengths.
Incidentally, Juddmonte offer both Passage of Time’s winning
half-sister Sandglass (Zafonic) and grandam, Quandary (Blushing
Groom), as Lots 2299 and 1615 respectively at the up-coming
Tattersalls December Sale.

Prominent throughout, Passage Of Time quickened smartly to lead
approaching the final 100 metres and add to her impressive victory
in last month’s Montrose Stakes at Newmarket. Successful in three
of her four starts, the Henry Cecil pupil has made significant
physical improvement since the summer and looks a live Oaks
prospect indeed.
Passage Of Time, the Gr.2 July Stakes and Gr.2 Vintage Stakes ace
Strategic Prince and the Gr.3
Somerville Tattersall Stakes marvel Thousand Words hail from the
third crop of Banstead Manor Stud’s
DANSILI, whose first
two crops of 219 foals aged three and over feature the Gr.1 Prix de
l’Arc de Triomphe and Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris hero Rail Link, the
French Champion Juvenile Early March and the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des
Pouliches first-past-the-post Price Tag.
Runner-up in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and the Gr.1
Sussex Stakes and an unlucky third in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Mile,
DANSILI is by
Danehill out of the magnificent mare Hasili and is thus a
full-brother to three Gr.1 aces in Banstead Manor Stud’s new
recruit Cacique, Banks Hill and Intercontinental and a three
parts-brother to a fourth in Heat Haze. DANSILI has two foals catalogued at Goffs
this week and seventeen at Tattersalls’ December Sale. Passage Of
Time is the third foal of Clepsydra, who has a yearling colt by
Observatory and a colt foal by DANSILI . By Sadler’s Wells out of the
Listed scorer Quandary, Clepsydra is a half-sister to the Lingfield
Oaks Trial victrix Double Crossed (Caerleon).
By Blushing Groom, Quandary is one of five Stakes winners produced
by Lost Virtue (Cloudy Dawn).
These include All At Sea (Riverman), who defeated Brief Truce and
Hatoof in the Gr.1 Prix du Moulin, the dual Pattern-winning miler
Over The Ocean (Super Concorde) and the Listed winner Insinuate
(Mr
Prospector), whose son Stronghold (by DANSILI ’s sire Danehill) was successful
in this autumn’s Gr.3
Supreme Stakes.
