WEDNESDAY WINNERS
Despite being the hottest day of the year in 2006 on Wednesday
19th July, the Juddmonte Stallion roster was represented by
four winners around the British racetracks, all of
whom proved that they were at the top of their game leaving
their rivals behind in the race for the line.
Hot on the heels
of DANSILI's group successes last week, juvenile fillies Chervil and
Dollar Chick produced a couple of noteworthy performances at
Lingfield and Catterick. Chervil, the Amanda Perrett trained
half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Light Jig, saw off a challenge
from the smart filly Empress Olga a full-sister to
Russian Rhythm, when she responded readily off the bend into
the home straight under Ryan Moore. This performance qualified her
to be titled Maiden Winner of the Day by the Racing Post Bloodstock
Desk.

MUCH of the pre-race focus rested on Empress Olga, a
sister to Russian Rhythm, but Chervil was entitled to win this
judged on her promising debut at Warwick last month. The filly now
has that all important win to supplement her high class pedigree
and it would be no surprise to see her go on to better things.
Chervil is another winner for DANSILI, who has had a fabulous week
thanks to the victories of Rail Link and Strategic Prince. The
filly is also the product of a very successful female line, her dam
Nashmeel having produced 11 winners, three of them black-type, from
13 foals.
Nashmeel's finest moment came in the Group 2 Prix d'Astarte, but
she ran with credit at Grade 1 level, finishing second in the
Yellow Ribbon Handicap and the Matriarch Stakes when transferred to
the US.
Several years later, her Danehill daughter, Light Jig, went one
better in the Yellow Ribbon, having also won the Grade 2 Beverley
Hills Handicap. Nashmeel's first foal, Lynton, a colt by Lyphard,
was also a French Listed winner, as was her Sanglamore colt, Battle
Dore.
Nashmeel is out of the smart US filly Donut's Bunnie, who won four
races in the US. At stud she was a prolific producer, breeding ten
winners from 12 runners.
Dollar Chick (DANSILI) offered a glimpse of her
ability whilst making an easy run for the line with her ears
pricked in the juvenile novice event yesterday at Catterick,
confirming the promise of her debut run at Beverley with a decisive
two-and-a-half length victory. Trainer Mark Johnston said "The
Initial plan had been to run Always Fruitful in this race, as we
didn't think the sharp track would suit her. But after he had a
small problem yesterday morning, we put this filly in despite the
course. She'll definitely be better on a galloping track. We'll
step her up in grade now. I've entered her for the Shergar Cup, and
a Group 2 in Ireland is another possibility."
RAINBOW QUEST's
winner appeared from the Weatherby's Printing
Handicap at Kempton for trainer John Hills. Getting first run on
the others, Follow The Colours was in front with more than a
furlong to go and had soon gone beyond recall. He looked a bit of a
handful in the preliminaries, but he is evidently getting better in
that department, and once the race was under way he was always
travelling.
Finsbury
(OBSERVATORY), trained by
Chris Wall, produced a
telling turn of foot to settle the issue near the finish of the
John Smith's Novice Auction St . He got the trip well
under a patient ride and gave the impression there will be more to
come from him.
