THOUSAND WORDS FLUENT IN VICTORY AT NEWBURY
Thousand Words (Dansili) earned a 25-1 quote from
sponsors Stan James for the 2,000 Guineas after keeping his
unbeaten record intact with a defeat of 5-4 favourite Drumfire in
the Trailfinders Conditions Stakes.
The winner slipstreamed the runner-up yet got up by only a neck at
the death, trainer Barry Hills reckoning the loose ground not to be
in the colt's favour.
"He's a nice horse with plenty of scope," said Hills. "He probably
won't run more than a couple of times this year, maybe in the Acomb
Stakes and the Champagne Stakes at York.
"I don't think the ground helped. He was just a bit keen but picked
up well. He will be better in a better race run at a faster pace.
Generally my horses have not been in that good form but when they
come right, he'll be better."
