JUDDMONTE ONE-TWO IN DEAUVILLE JUVENILE FEATURE
Taken from the EBN
Juddmonte Farms’ homebreds Stern Opinion (MIZZEN MAST) and African Rose (OBSERVATORY) filled the first two places in yesterday’s Listed Prix Yacowlef at Deauville, the pair being chased home by Kadance Blue (Anabaa Blue). The Prix Yacowlef, for unraced two-year-olds, is often the first racecourse appearance by a classy runner, and previous winners include the likes of Riverman, Dahlia and Machiavellian. Yesterday’s first three home, who finished clear of the remainder, are certainly for the notebooks. The race was won last year by Beauty is Truth (Pivotal), who went on to win Gr.3 Prix d’Arenberg in 2006 and Gr.2 Prix du Gros-Chene this season, and in 2005 by New Girlfriend (Diesis), who won the Gr.2 Prix Morny next time out, plus the Gr.3 Prix de Seine-et- Oise last October. The 2004 runner-up Nipping (Night Shift) later won the Gr.3 Prix du Petit Couvert and the 2003 runner-up Chineur (Fasliyev) took the Gr.2 King’s Stand Stakes and Gr.3 Prix de Saint-Georges at four.
