DULCET TONE (f, 3, EMPIRE MAKER--Euphonize, by Seattle Slew) earned an 82 Beyer when she was a good third at 3-2 odds in her debut sprinting at Monmouth Park June 19. Wheeled back on 10 days’ rest here, the Juddmonte Farms homebred was away alertly under John Velazquez and cruised uncontested through :22 1/5 and :45 3/5 splits. The crowd’s 4-5 opened up a commanding lead in upper stretch and was kept to task late to post the 6 1/4-length romp.
Mosaic (Storm Cat--Tweedside) chased gamely and was clearly second best in a strung-out field. Dulcet Tone's success at six furlongs belies a distance-laden pedigree that also boasts plenty of class. Her unraced dam is Euphonize (Seattle Slew), a daughter of the stakes winner Euphonic (The Minstrel), who is a half-sister to the great sire Danehill; her fourth dam is Spring Adieu, a half-sister to Northern Dancer. Firster Star Venue (Vindication), a 3-1 chance, showed early speed before fading to be last of seven. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $35,640.
