Article taken from Thoroughbred Times Today by Mike Curry
Lorccan(by APTITUDE) rallied from off the pace under Jeffrey Sanchez and surged clear in the closing strides to earn his second stakes win of the year with a one-length score in the $68,000 Coyote Lakes Stakes.
Lorrcan stalked the pace while saving ground as Lonely Highway set the tempo through a half-mile in 48.54 and six furlongs in 1:14.19. Fancy Runner and Grade 3 winner Ravel powered past fading Lonely Highway on the turn as Sanchez angled Lorccan wide approaching the stretch. Lorccan closed steadily in the lane and edged clear late to prevail in 2:48.18 for 15⁄8 miles on a track rated as fast. Ravel, winner of the 2007 Sham Stakes (G3), faded to finish sixth as the 1.05-to-1 favourite.
Lorccan won the Salute Me Sir Stakes on September 28 at Belmont Park for trainer James Ferraro and owner Lianna Stables. He improved to seven wins in 34 starts with the Coyote Lakes victory and boosted his earnings to $277,889. A New-York-bred four-year-old APTITUDE colt, Corccan is out of the winning Phone Trick mare Designer Phone.
