Zacinto leapt to favouritism for next year’s Stanjamesuk.com 2,000 Guineas by providing different class to his nine rivals in the 7f maiden.
The Sir Micheal Stoute trained son of DANSILI was green in the preliminaries and connections feared he might not do himself justice. But having been eased outside with his challenge over a furlong from home, he soon got on with it and ultimately stretched eight lengths clear of long time leader Seminole, pushed right out and given a good education by Ryan Moore.
It was surely an over reaction on the part of VCBet to slash him to just 10-1 for Newmarket, but the other big firms are only a few points bigger at 14-1.
Moore said ‘I thought he’d be babyish and he was, hollering at the start and when he was going in the stalls, but his turn of foot was impressive.’
Teddy Grimthorpe, representing Khalid Abdullah, the colt’s owner breeder, was more than satisfied too. He said; ‘His homework suggested he was quite useful, and he did it in a professional manner. He’s got a good pedigree, and I think we’ll have to step him up for one of those nice 7f races.’
