SANTA ANITA SCORE FOR DANSILI’S THOUSAND WORDS
THOUSAND WORDS (2004 c byDANSILI – Verbose by Storm Bird) had shaped like a very promising youngster when winning the Gr.3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket on his fourth outing. He started his threeyear-old season with a third in the Gr.3 Craven Stakes, but failed to make the frame in his next five starts – although he was beaten only 31⁄4 lengths when fifth in the Gr.1 French 2,000 Guineas. Sent to the US, he made his debut in the Gr.2 San Pasqual Handicap on Santa Anita’s all-weather track and finished fourth. Switched to the turf for a one mile optional claiming/allowance event on Sunday, Thousand Words raced keenly behind a fast early pace. He took over in the stretch, and needed little urging to tally by 11⁄4 lengths.
The Juddmonte Farms homebred is out of the Swinley Stakes second, Verbose, herself a half-sister to French stakes winner Acrobatic, and the Gr.2 San Juan Capistrano Handicap runner-up Exterior. The grandam, Alvernia, a daughter of Alydar, is a halfsister to Most Precious, a French Listed winner and Gr.1-placed runner, who is also dam of the French 1,000 Guineas heroine, Matiara.
