JIM EDGAR ILLINOIS FUTURITY
Article taken from the TDN
Summer’s Empire failed to get his picture taken in his first three attempts over synthetic surfaces at Keeneland and Arlington, but broke through in his first start over the Hawthorne dirt Oct. 23, graduating by a neck versus state-breds. He made it two straight in Stickney with a 6 1/4- length tally in an open $50,000 optional claimer Nov. 19, and was favored for his stakes bow here. Sitting a close third beneath Jesse Campbell, he gained a clear lead in the stretch and stayed on to post his first stakes victory.
