Acoma rattled off three straight victories this spring, capped by the GIII Dogwood S. going a flat mile on Churchill’s main track May 31. Shipped east, the bay filly was a tame fourth in the 10-furlong GI CCA Oaks at Belmont July 19, and came here off a second in the GIII Monmouth Oaks Aug. 9. She went postward as the tepid 7-2 choice for this turf debut. Acoma recovered from a bump at the start to race in fifth, but began to tug her way forward on the far turn. The homebred hit the front in deep stretch and asserted herself in the final strides to post her second graded tally.
