MEMORETTE RETIRED, WILL BE BRED TO EMPIRE MAKER
By Jeff Lowe
Grade 2 winner Memorette has been retired and booked to
EMPIRE
MAKER for the upcoming season.
Trained by Bill Currin for his wife, Betty, Memorette finished
third to Ginger Punch in the Sunshine Millions Distaff Stakes on
January 26 at Gulfstream Park in her final start. She was scheduled
to arrive on Monday afternoon at Valkyre Stud in Georgetown,
Kentucky, farm owner Catherine Parke said.
The Currins bred Memorette in California in the name of their
Oak Tree Farm, and Bill Currin gave the six-year-old Memo (Chi)
mare to his wife as a birthday present.
Memorette won the 2006 Beverly Hills Handicap (G2) and Fran’s
Valentine Stakes at Hollywood Park and 2004 California Breeders’
Champion Stakes at Santa Anita Oaks (G1).
Out of the Shahrastani mare Forever Fondre, Memorette won four
of 32 career starts and earned $896,753
