DANSILI EXACTA
Delegator was back to his very best at Goodwood on Saturday in the Celebration Mile Gr.2. Frankie Dettori settled him in against the rail and when asked to go about his business inside the final furlong he duly obliged with a exhilarating turn of foot to put the race to bed and win comfortably by a 1 ½ lengths from the lightly raced Zacinto (DANSILI). Zacinto travelled with real promise on the outside though when the race turned into a dash for the line he was caught by the more experienced Delegator.
The Racing Post commented:
"As soon as Delegator was switched to the outside of the two leaders, he quickly cut them down for a one-and-a-half-length victory. Paddy Power reacted to the victory by cutting Delegator to 7-1 from 10-1 for the Breeders' Cup Mile.
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "He's a really top horse and we were hoping to see him win like that, but you never know when it's a horse's first run for a new stable as sometimes they don't run as well. He's a good horse, though, and we're looking forward to seeing him this year and next year.
"It'll be the QEII next and then the Breeders' Cup Mile - that's the plan. Santa Anita would suit him well and that could be a good race for him - we'd be worried about Goldikova, but that's what horse racing is about - matching one good one against another."
The race provided a 1-2 for DANSILI who is having an excellent year in 2009 with 10 individual stakes winners so far including the highly progressive Strawberrydaiquiri who is entered next in the Sun Chariot Stakes Gr.1 at Newmarket.
