GLORIOUS DOUBLE FOR JUDDMONTE FAMILY
Article taken from the EBN
Khalid Abdulla’s Juddmonte Farms completed a remarkable double yesterday at Goodwood, when members of the same family took the day’s two Stakes races.
The highlight was Midday’s victory in the Gr.1 Nassau Stakes. The daughter of OASIS DREAM, who stands at Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud, battled through the driving rain to score comfortably by two and a quarter lengths. Just before the race, her participation on the rain softened ground had looked in doubt – she had
detested the heavy going when third in the Irish Oaks last time out – but connections bravely decided to let her take her chance. She did not disappoint, taking the lead over two furlongs out and staying on strongly.
She could run next in the Gr.1 Yorkshire Oaks later this month, with the Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera a longer term target, according to popular former Champion trainer Henry Cecil.
Their second winner of the day was Zacinto (DANSILI), who was victorious in the Listed Thoroughbred Stakes. He has been off the track for the best part of a year and he made a winning seasonal debut in conditions more akin to a Saturday in November than one in high summer, powering through the vile weather to win gamely by a head.
The son of OASIS DREAM’S stablemate DANSILI was touted as a 2,000 Guineas prospect following his debut win last July, which was followed by a second in the Champagne Stakes, in which he picked up an injury that kept him off the track until now. He is currently entered in the Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes and the Gr.1 Queen
Elizabeth II Stakes and is clearly a colt with a big future.
The two horses are very closely related. Zacinto is the first foal of his Gr.3-placed dam Ithaca (Distant View), who is a daughter of the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile and Oaks winner Reams of Verse (Nureyev), whilst Midday is the second foal of her Listed-placed dam Midsummer (Kingmambo), who is half-sister to Reams of Verse. They are half-sisters to the dual Gr.1 winner and sire Elmaamul (Diesis) and they come from the family of the top sires Zafonic and ZAMINDAR.
