CONNECTIONS EYE EPSOM FOR TED SPREAD
Article taken from the EBN.
The connections of Ted Spread (BEAT HOLLOW) have their sights on the Derby after their charge denied Icon Dream (Sadler’s Wells) in the closing stages of the Gr.3 Chester Vase on the second day of the Chester meeting. The son of Juddmonte Banstead Manor-based BEAT HOLLOW was headed in the closing stages but fought back gamely to assert close home.
The multiple Gr.1 winner BEAT HOLLOW, already the sire of the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Proportional, as well as the Gr.3 Prix du Calvados winner Charlotte O Fraise, comes from the family of his fellow Juddmonte sire, the Champion OASIS DREAM.
Ted Spread, who is trained by Mark Tompkins, is homebred by Pollards Stables and is out of Highbrook (Alphabatim), who won on the flat and over hurdles.
Tompkins came agonisingly close to winning the 1996 Gr.1 2,000 Guineas with Even Top (Topanoora), who like Ted Spread, had a winning hurdler as his dam.
