TUSCAN EVENING AND TREAT GENTLY ON THE MARK
Article taken from the EBN.
The Hascombe and Valiant Studs-bred Tuscan Evening collected her sixth victory in as many starts this year when making all in Saturday’s Gr.3 Modesty Handicap. The long trip from her California base to Arlington Park did not stop the OASIS DREAM five-year-old, who scored by half a length from Eclair de Lune, a German-foaled daughter of Marchand de Sable formerly trained by Yves de Nicolay.
The race is one of the main preps for the Gr.1 Beverly D Stakes, to be run at Arlington on 21st August, and the winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer commented afterwards,
“I would love to come back for the Beverly D. That’s why we came here today – to see if she likes the course and to see if she would ship well.”
Tuscan Evening (OASIS DREAM) has now won 12 of her 27 races, including the Gr.1 Gamely Stakes at the end of May, for earnings of more than $1.1m.
The Juddmonte Farms homebred Treat Gently raced wide around the Delaware Park home turn before coming through to pass her rivals in the Gr.3 Robert G Dick Memorial Handicap. The William Mott-trained mare finished a length and a quarter in front of A She’s Adorable (Johar), with the front-runner Ainamaa (Lemon Drop Kid) back in third.
Treat Gently, who is out of a half-sister to the phenomenal broodmare Hasili, was a Gr.2 winner in France in 2008 when trained by Andre Fabre and was the easy winner of the Gr.2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park last time out. She has now won five times in 14 starts.
