EMPIRE MAKER STRIKES AT DEAUVILLE

Article taken from the EBN written by Alastair Nicolson

Gr.3 DARLEY PRIX DE LA NONETTE

Charity Belle (EMPIRE MAKER) set a decent pace under Frankie Dettori and rallied gamely when headed briefly by Article Rare in the home straight to assert in the final 100 metres. The imposing bay thus became the sixth Graded/Group winner from the 184 named foals aged three and over in the first two crops of Juddmonte Farms’ Gr.1 Belmont Stakes hero EMPIRE MAKER. These feature the Gr.1 Alcibiades Stakes and Gr.1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes queen Country Star and the Gr.1 Hollywood Futurity and Gr.1 Santa Anita Derby ace Pioneerof The Nile.

Charity Belle is the third foal of Sweet Charity, whose previous offspring are June’s Gr.1 Clasico Jockey Club del Peru-third Spicer Boy (Lemon Drop Kid) and the Canadian Listed-placed Charity Quest (Coronado’s Quest). By A P Indy, Sweet Charity is out of the Gr.1 Ladies Handicap, Gr.1 Top Flight Handicap and Gr.1 Shuvee Handicap heroine Banker’s Lady, who produced the Gr.2 Peter Pan Stakes and Gr.2 Tom Fool Handicap victor Banker’s Gold to Forty Niner. By Nijinsky, Banker’s Lady is out of Briartic’s Gr.2 Matron Handicap victrix Impetuous Gal, who produced the Gr.3 Ark-La-Tex Handicap winner Idabel to Forty Niner’s sire and EMPIRE MAKER’S great-grandsire Mr Prospector and is the grandam of Forty Niner’s Gr.1 Super Derby winner Ecton Park and the Japanese Gr.3 winners Daring Heart (Sunday Silence) and Pit Fighter (Pulpit).

Impetuous Gal’s three parts-sister Countess North (Northern Dancer) won the Gr.3 Comely Stakes and is the grandma of this year’s Gr.1 Madison Handicap and Gr.1 Humana Distaff heroine Informed Decision (Monarchos). Sweet Charity has a yearling colt by Pleasantly Perfect and a colt foal by Stonesider.
