LADY JANE STARS IN GERMAN GR.1
Article taken from the EBN.
Not to be outdone by the terrific week enjoyed by DANSILI, sire of Saturday’s runaway Gr.1 “King George” winner Harbinger, fellow Banstead Manor Stud resident OASIS DREAM replied with the seventh top level winner of his even shorter stallion career when Lady Jane Digby came out best in Munich’s Gr.1 Bayerisches Zuchtrennen.
The five-year-old settled behind the pacesetting veteran White Lightning (Sternkonig) until powering into the lead in the final quarter mile. Last season’s Gr.1 Preis der Diana heroine Night Magic (Sholokhov) found a gap against the rail but could not peg back the winner, while the favourite, Godolphin’s Alexandros (Kingmambo), was a never nearer third.
This was the first Gr.1 outing for the winner, who is owned and was bred by Miss Kirsten Rausing. The mare was a Gr.3 winner in Germany last season and has also won twice in Listed company. She is a close relative of multiple Pattern winner Gateman, by Owington (another son of Green Desert), out of a Niniski half-sister to Gr.1-winning sprinter Polish Patriot (by Green Desert’s sire Danzig).
OASIS DREAM has also been responsible for May’s Gr.1 winners Querari (Premio Presidente della Repubblica) and Tuscan Evening (Gamely Stakes).
Another Juddmonte stallion on yesterday’s Stakes scoresheet was BEAT HOLLOW whose daughter Burn the Breeze was a Listed winner at Maisons-Laffitte.
