TUSCAN EVENING GETS HER FIRST GR.1
Article taken from the EBN.
The five-year-old Tuscan Evening continued the excellent recent run of success for her young sire OASIS DREAM when landing her fifth race in a row – and her first Gr.1 – in Saturday’s Gamely Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Unusually held up off the pace, she headed the front running Cat by the Tale (Tale of the Cat) half way down the home straight and gamely held the 2008 Champion Turf Mare Forever Together (Belong To Me) by three quarters of a length.
The win took her record to 11 wins in 26 starts and her earnings to more than $1m, and her five recent victories have come at trips from about six and a half furlongs to ten furlongs.
Formerly trained by John Joseph Murphy in Ireland, Tuscan Evening was bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs and is a grand-daughter of their top-class producer Sassalya (Sassafras). She produced 13 winners from her 16 foals, including Gr.1 Prix d’Ispahan winner and shortlived sire Sasuru, the ill-fated dual Group winner Sally Rous, two Listed winners and three others with black-type placings, and is also the grandam of Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine Rosy Gypsy.
Tuscan Evening is now the sixth Gr.1 winner for her sire, Banstead Manor Stud’s OASIS DREAM, who notched up his fifth (Querari) a fortnight ago and his first Classic winner (Frozen Power – Gr.2 Mehl Mulhens Rennen) last Sunday. He also sired Saturday’s Gr.3 winner Main Aim, Listed scorer Field of Dream and Listed runner-up Rainfall.
