CHAMPS ELYSEES IN DEMAND
After four days of selling at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, the first foals by multiple Gr.1 winner CHAMPS ELYSEES made on average over three and a half times his 2010 stud fee and up to 165,000 guineas. The average price of 35,281 guineas for 16 foals sold made the young stallion – who is brother to one of the world's leading sires, DANSILI - one of the most popular first crop sires at the Sale.
His top lot was Lot 1216 (pictured), a good-looking bay filly out of Shemriyna (King Of Kings) from an illustrious Aga Khan family, consigned by Mickley Stud and bought by Cathy Grassick for 165,000 guineas.
According to EBN (27/11/11), Mickley Stud chief Richard Kent was “ecstatic” with the result:
"It was another huge return on the mare, whom Kent and Alan Stennett picked up for €58,000 at Arqana in December 2008 before her son by Rainbow Quest called Shimraan won the Gr.2 Prix Eugene Adam. Kent added: 'For this foal, we decided to go to Champs Elysees, who is very well managed.'
"Liam Norris, Robert Percival, James Wigan and Eamon Reilly made bids in an attempt to secure the filly, but Grassick held sway. She was acting for Yvonne Jacques, 'to go back to Ireland – all options are open,' said the agent."
A day earlier, Lot 969, a three-parts brother to Gr.2 winner Lolly For Dolly consigned by The National Stud on behalf of Landseer Stud, made 55,000 guineas when knocked down to Redwall Bloodstock.
CHAMPS ELYSEES stands for a fee of £7,500 in 2012.
