NEW STAKES WINNER FOR ZAMINDAR
Lightly-raced three-year-old Zaminast became the latest stakes winner for ZAMINDAR when winning the Trigo Stakes L at Leopardstown on Sunday, drawing clear after the last furlong to win by two and three-quarter lengths.
The filly – a half-sister to multiple stakes winner, and previous dual Trigo Stakes winner, Famous Name (DANSILI) – won her only start as a juvenile, before running an encouraging fifth in the Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial Gr.3 on her three-year-old debut. She followed up with a close second in the Lavarack and Lanwades Stud Fillies’ Stakes Gr.3 last month.
Zaminast’s trainer Dermot Weld told EBN after the race: “She did it nicely. I’ll speak to Lord Grimthorpe but it is quite likely she’ll be kept in training next year as she is very progressive. We have had a wonderful year. It’s also been a good year for Juddmonte. That’s another nice stakes winner for them. She could go to Group status next year.”
Famous Name himself was withdrawn from this race due to soreness, but Weld confirmed the plan is to keep the very tough and consistent six-year-old in training next year.
ZAMINDAR has had another excellent year on the track, particularly with his current juvenile crop, with 16 individual winners including four blacktype performers. His latest winner is the John Gosden-trained Starboard, who won second time out in easy fashion in an EBF Maiden Stakes at Redcar, seeing off the opposition to score by an impressive five lengths.
