CROSS CHANNEL SUCCESS FOR JUDDMONTE SIRES

The Juddmonte stallions enjoyed stakes success on both sides of the Channel over the weekend, as well as two Gr.1 placings at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting at Longchamp.

At Newmarket on Saturday (6th October), Swiss Dream made all to win the Listed Boadicea Fillies’ Stakes, beating the Juddmonte homebred Ultrasonic (MIZZEN MAST) into second place. The daughter of OASIS DREAM, owned and bred by Lordship Stud and trained by David Elsworth, is now the winner of three stakes races to date.

On the other side of the Channel, the fast finishing Canticum won the Prix Chaudenay Gr.2 to become yet another Group winner for his sire Cacique – whose full-brother CHAMPS ELYSEES sees his first yearlings sell at Tattersalls October Book 1 this week.

Canticum is out of the Distant View mare Allegro Viva, a full-sister to Dewhurst Stakes Gr.1 winner and sire Distant Music and a half-sister to the Lancashire Oaks-third New Orchid (dam of the Sprint Cup Gr.1 winner African Rose and the Prix d’Aumale Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac Gr.1 second Helleborine – both by OBSERVATORY). It is interesting to note that Cacique’s other full brother DANSILI has had remarkable success with mares by Distant View – with six blacktype winners including Group 1 winner Emulous and Group 2 winners BATED BREATH (retiring to Banstead Manor Stud for 2013) and Zacinto.

Also on Saturday, Dux Scholar (OASIS DREAM) only narrowly lost out first place in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein Gr.2 when runner-up on the heavy ground at Longchamp.

On Sunday (7th October) at Longchamp, Topaze Blanche became the latest Gr.1 performer for ZAMINDAR when second by a head in the Prix Marcel Boussac Gr.1. The race was won by Silasol, whose dam, Stormina, is currently in foal to DANSILI.

Giofra meanwhile performed admirably in testing conditions to finish a close third in the Prix de l’Opera Gr.1. The filly, owned and bred by Haras de la Perelle and trained by Alain de Royer Dupre, won the Falmouth Stakes Gr.1 earlier in the season and is one of three Gr.1 winners by DANSILI this year.
