GIOFRA WINS THE FALMOUTH STAKES

Giofra © Scoop DygaGiofra was the star on the second day of Newmarket’s July Meeting on Friday (13th July) when winning the Falmouth Stakes in impressive fashion to become the 10th individual Gr.1 winner for her sire DANSILI.

Already the winner of the Prix d’Harcourt Gr.2 (pictured) and second to Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay Gr.1 at Longchamp last time out, the lightly-raced four-year-old beat a high class field of fillies to win comfortably for owner/breeders Haras De La Perelle.

Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre said after the race: “She had two very good races at Longchamp this year and I was very confident.

“She is a very good filly. She had a slight problem at the beginning of the season as a three-year-old but she has come to the fore now and is a new filly.

“The Nassau Stakes at Goodwood is possible and after that maybe the Prix de l’Opera or the Arc, she is engaged in both.”

Giofra’s victory provided DANSILI – who is the leading British-based sire in order of individual Group winners for the period 2010 to 2012 – with his 11th individual Group win this year, and his second Gr.1 winner of 2012 after Fallen For You’s recent success in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The filly's dam, Gracefully (Orpen), won the Prestige Stakes Gr.3 at Goodwood, and visited DANSILI again this season having foaled a colt by OASIS DREAM.
