EASY STAKES WIN FOR ITALIAN DERBY RUNNER-UP WILD WOLF

Wild Wolf became the third stakes winner for up and coming young sire RAIL LINK with a victory in the Listed Gran Premio d’Italia yesterday (24th June).

Taken from European Bloodstock News 25/06/12:

Wild Wolf (RAIL LINK), runner-up to Feuerblitz (Big Shuffle) in the Gr.2 Derby Italiano, scored his first Stakes win yesterday at San Siro in the Listed Gran Premio d’Italia.

The bay colt, who had to carry a 2.5kg penalty, tracked the strong pace set by his stablemate Orpello (Orpen) and picked up well in the last 500m. He ran on to score by an impressive four lengths from Bit Of Hell (Hurricane Run), while Orpello stayed on for third.

“Wild Wolf needs a pacemaker and Orpello did the job perfectly. He stays 2400m, and maybe more, and I am pleased with the way he ran on,” said trainer Stefano Botti.

Wild Wolf will now have a summer rest and is expected to improve again. “He will be a much better four-year-old. His target this autumn could be the Gr.1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club but we have plenty of time to decide,” said his owner Felice Villa.

A €30,000 purchase at the SGA Selected Sale, was bred by Razza Ascagnano. He is the second stakes winner out of Mary Rose (Royal Academy), a six times winner. The second dam Rose Violet (Alleged) ran second in the Oaks d’Italia (Gr.1 then) and has foaled several winners, including Rachelle (Mark Of Esteem), dam of the Gr.1 winner and sire Amadeus Wolf.
