FAMOUS NAME WINS THIRD MELD STAKES
Juddmonte stalwart Famous Name notched up his 17th victory at stakes level yesterday (26th July) when winning the Meld Stakes Gr.3 at Leopardstown for the third successive year.
Taken from European Bloodstock News 27/07/12:
Famous Name (DANSILI) has amassed an incredible record of stakes victories and once again displayed his remarkable affinity for the demands of Leopardstown by winning the Gr.3 Meld Stakes for the third year in succession. His record now stands at 18 wins from 35 starts and the former Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club runner-up has won a total of 17 stakes races, of which eleven have been at Gr.3 level.
On this occasion he quickened up off the final bend to take control heading towards the last furlong and he had plenty to spare in defeating Ballybacka Lady (Hurricane Run). He is likely to head to the Curragh next month for the Gr.2 Royal Whip Stakes.
The Juddmonte-bred horse is a half-brother to last year’s Listed Trigo Stakes heroine and Gr.3 runner-up Zaminast (ZAMINDAR). They are among six runners and winners bred by Fame At Last (Quest For Fame), who is among two successful offspring produced by Ranales (Majestic Light).
The third dam is the Gr.3 Brownstown Stakes runner-up Katsura (Northern Dancer) and her offspring are headed by the Listed Virginia Stakes winner Rambushka. The latter is the grandam of the brilliant Australian racemare Makybe Diva, whose career included three Gr.1 Melbourne Cup victories, and the Gr.3 winner Valkyrie Diva. Katsura is also the dam of the Gr.2 Champagne Stakes runner-up Arokat and the Listed-placed duo of River Foyle and Katsina. The last-named bred the classy stakes-winning juvenile sprinter Halland Park Girl.
Famous Name has a two-year-old full-sister named Big Break also in training with Dermot Weld. His dam has a yearling colt by CHAMPS ELYSEES and is back in foal to that sire's full-brother DANSILI.
