MIZZEN MAST FILLIES TAKE CENTER STAGE

MIZZEN MAST fillies take center stage as the year end ratings and nominations for awards roll in for 2012.  His Breeders' Cup winners find themselves among the creme de la creme with MIZDIRECTION garnering a nomination for top Female Sprinter in the U.S. and FLOTILLA receiving a rating of 111 in the World Thoroughbred Rankings (only one other filly of her generation received a higher rating).

Also of note is 2012 Group winner and track record setter DUNDONNELL (FIRST DEFENCE) who received a 113 in the World Thoroughbred Rankings, placing him among the top European two-year-olds of 2012.

Taken from European Daily News:

Trained in Frace by Mikel Delzangles, Flotilla (MIZZEN MAST) had run respectably in Group company, including a close fourth in the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac, before venturing Stateside to capture the Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf.  After being ridden patiently early on, she had to wait for a suitable gap but fairly flew home to win, going away, by just over a length.

Bred by a partnership including Eric Puerari and Oceanic Bloodstock, her pedigree is a mix of speed and stamina.  She is out of the Sinndar mare Louvain, who was twice Listed-placed in France before moving to the States, where she won a Gr.3 at Hollywood Park.  A half-sister to the ten-furlong Listed winner Laajooj (Azamour) and the Gr.3 placed sprinter Desert Poppy (OASIS DREAM), Louvain is out of Flanders (Common Grounds), a Gr.2-placed Listed-winning sprinter.
