IMMORTAL VERSE IN FOAL TO DANSILI SETS EUROPEAN RECORD
Immortal Verse set a European record price for a broodmare at Tattersalls yesterday (3rd December), when selling to Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland on behalf of the Coolmore team for 4.7 million guineas.
The five-year-old dual Gr.1 winning mare was carrying her first foal, to a covering by leading Juddmonte stallion DANSILI.
DANSILI's Gr.2 winning and Gr.1-placed daughter Dream Peace was the second highest priced lot of the session, selling to agent Hugo Lascelles for 2.7 million. Lascelles indicated to the press after the sale that Dream Peace would stay in England and may be bred to FRANKEL next season.
World champion FRANKEL's first in-foal mares to sell at Tattersalls averaged well over 1 million guineas for seven mares sold. The most expensive during the second session was Chrysanthemum, the first mare scanned in foal to FRANKEL earlier in the year.
Chrysanthemum was purchased by agent Reilly McDonald of Eaton Sales for 800,000 guineas, on behalf of an American client “desperate to buy a mare in foal to FRANKEL.”
McDonald commented: “She cost a little more than we expected, but she’s a lovely mare with a lot of appealing ingredients. Her page and race record means she should do well in the USA, and my client was very keen to buy a mare with a FRANKEL foal. We will probably foal her here, cover her, then send them over to the States. Whether we race the foal or sell him is undecided but, being by FRANKEL, he will have appeal wherever he goes.”
Goodwood March, also in foal to FRANKEL, is heading to Newsells Park Stud after her purchase by Julian Dollar for 650,000 guineas. Dollar commented that the over-riding reason for the mare’s purchase was: “The FRANKEL factor for sure. She’s a lovely mare, she’s a proven mare, and in foal to FRANKEL. She’s already produced some nice horses. We’ve got a couple mares in foal to FRANKEL already and we were lucky enough to buy one in the States.”
