MENTOR CANE FINISHES SECOND IN THE PRESTIGIOUS KING'S BISHOP GR.1

By Ercel Ellis:

Mentor Cane, a three-year-old colt by MIZZEN MAST, came close to becoming his sire's sixth Gr.1 stakes winner last Saturday at Saratoga in the King's Bishop Gr.1

In a field of 14 of the best 3 year old sprinters in the nation, Mentor Cane put down fractions of :22 and 1, :44 and 3, and 1:09 and 1 to hold off all but Capo Bastone, who took advantage of the blistering early pace to register a come from behind win, seven furlongs in 1:22 and 1. Mentor Cane was 3¼ lengths in front of the third place finisher. It was just the third start of the year for Mentor Cane. He's fast and a colt to be reckoned with.
