RECENT SUCCESS ABOUNDS

MIZZEN MAST's brilliant daughter, Mizdirection, recorded her fourth consecutive Graded stakes victory on 13th April, conceding five pounds to the field and dropping back from the mile distance of her most recent triumph in the Gr.2 Buena Vista to 6 1/2 furlongs.  Mizdirection displayed the "refuse to lose" determination often found in the progeny of her sire, closing from 2 lengths back at the eighth pole to defeat her pace setting stablemate Schiaparelli by a half length in the Gr.3 Las Cienegas.  The win boosted her earnings to $1,154,621.

A model of consistency, Mizdirection has never been out of the money in 15 career starts with 10 wins, 4 seconds, and 1 third place finish.  She has yet to taste defeat on Santa Anita's turf course winning the Gr.1 $1,000,000 Breeders' Cup Sprint defeating her male competitors, the Gr.2 Monrovia twice, the Gr.2 Buena Vista, the Gr.3 Las Cienegas twice, and the Clocker's Corner Stakes.  She also sprinted a mile in 1:34 and 1 to win the Sandy Blue Stakes at Del Mar and posted 2 wins at Hollywood Park breaking her Maiden there by 11 1/2 lengths, 6 furlongs in 1:08 and 2, and a 6 furlong Allowance test in 1:09 flat.

Mizdirection is considered the fastest sprinter, of either sex, on grass in North America.  Her next start is likely the Gr.1 Just A Game Stakes at a mile on 3rd June at Belmont Park.

Another filly by MIZZEN MAST to keep an eye on is Upbeat Mood.  Competing on the same card as Mizdirection, Upbeat Mood ran third in the Runway Stakes in what was just her second start of the year.  Earlier that day, cross country at Keeneland, Mezzano, a 4 year old colt by MIZZEN MAST won an Allowance Optional Claming race with a purse of $62,000.  5 days later, at Keeneland again, Eden Prairie scored a black type finish in the Appalachian Stakes Gr.3.  Upbeat Mood's stakes placing was over 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass, Eden Prarie's finish was 8 furlongs on the turf, and Mezzano won going a mile and a sixteenth on the polytrack, once again demonstrating the versatility typical of the progeny of MIZZEN MAST.

MIZZEN MAST has sired 5 Gr.1 stakes winners.  He is the only sire who was represented by 2 winners of Breeders' Cup races last fall -  Mizdirection and the 2 year old filly Flotilla, winner of the $1,000,000 Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at a mile.  Preceding them in victory at the highest level were Gr.1 stakes winners Mast Track, winner of over $928,000, Ultimate Eagle, winner of over $547,000, and Midships, winner of nearly $528,000.  MIZZEN MAST has sired the winners of Gr.1 races at the distances of 6 1/2 furlongs to a mile and a quarter.

MIZZEN MAST won a Gr.1 stakes sprinting on the dirt and he was a Group stakes winner over 9 furlongs in Europe, where he is well known through the exploits of stakes winners Flotilla, Stern Opinion, Putney Bridge, Courcy, Lord Sinclair, and Yacht Woman.  He also sired a Graded stakes winner and millionaire in Japan.

A great value sire, MIZZEN MAST provides a successful outcross to Seattle Slew, Storm Cat, and Mr. Prospector line mares.
