WIRE TO WIRE WIN FOR MIZZEN MAST MAIDEN
by Ercel Ellis
On February 11th at the Fair Grounds Haniel, a three year old filly by MIZZEN MAST making her first start, won a $38,000 Maiden in wire to wire fashion going a mile and a sixteenth on the grass.
Bumped at the start, Haniel went immediately to the front and while racing in the two path, extended her lead to win by 3 1/2 lengths. Haniel went off the favorite in the filed of twelve following several impressive morning trials, and she lived up to favoritism from the 11 post position. Bred and owned by Sangreal Investments in Kentucky, she is the first foal out of the young Smart Strike mare Nashira (from the family of champion filly Smart Angle).
