FRANKEL HALF TO LOPE A NEW RISING STAR AT SAINT-CLOUD
Three-year-old Lady Frankel (FRANKEL) - owned and bred by Gestut Ammerland and trained by Andre Fabre - became the latest winner for her sire on Sunday when winning on debut at Saint-Cloud.
Taken from Thoroughbred Daily News, 20th March 2017:
A half-sister to the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club hero and now significant sire presence Lope de Vega (Shamardal), Lady Frankel started at 5-1 and was anchored towards the rear racing with enthusiasm throughout the early stages.
Wound up for her effort down the outer in early straight, the homebred only needed to be threatened with the whip by
Pierre-Charles Boudot to gain the lead 100 metres out and assert for a cosy length success from Vue Fantastique (Motivator).
Lady Frankel's dam was precocious enough to capture the Gr.3 Prix du Calvados and finish third in the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac and she was also off to a sharp start as a broodmare with her second foal turning out to be the Gr.3 Prix Andre Baboin scorer Bal de la Rose (Cadeaux Genereux), herself the dam of Godolphin's useful Listed winner Blossomtime also by Shamardal. Another of Lady Vettori's by that sire was Lord of the Land, who started off racing for this stable and was third in the Gr.3 Prix de Meautry before achieving success at Listed level in Britain.
Her 2012 offering was the Gr.3 Prix de Psyche third Light the Stars (Sea the Stars), while her two-year-old filly is also by FRANKEL and she has a yearling filly by Shamardal in the wings.
