2024 European Mating Plans

Juddmonte is pleased to announce the 2024 mating plans for some of its high-profile mares.

Juddmonte is committed to investing long term to improve the quality of its broodmare band through the purchase of notable fillies and mares, who can in turn also support Juddmonte’s European-based stallions: Frankel, Kingman, Chaldean, Oasis Dream and Bated Breath.

FRANKEL secured his second GB and Ireland Sire Championship in three years in 2023 siring 11 Group 1 winners worldwide of which seven were new, more than any other Northern Hemisphere-based stallion. He was also the leading sire in Europe by prizemoney for the third consecutive year with earnings just shy of £11 million, nearly £5 million clear of his nearest rival.

Unsurprisingly his book of mares from Juddmonte includes 27 stakes winners and/or producers. These include the Gr.1 winners Announce, Emollient (the dam of Frankel’s stakes-winning daughters Raclette and Ardent), Juliet Foxtrot, Midday, Proviso, Special Duty (the dam of the highly promising Frankel colt Task Force), the newly purchased Teona, and Viadera. He is also covering the Gr.1 producers Bird Flown (dam of two-year-old Gr.1/Classic winner Siskin); Concentric (Enable’s dam); Portodora (dam of Arlington Million winner Set Piece); and Repose (the dam of multiple Gr.1 winner State Of Rest). Mares returning to Frankel who have already produced Group winners by him include Time Chaser (the dam of 2023 Gr.3 winner Time Lock), Listed winner Principal Role (dam of 2023 Gr.3 winner Flight Leader) and Zatsfine (the dam of Gr.3 winner Delaware). Other Group winners visiting him include Prix Penelope winner Agave, Rockfel Stakes winner Isabelle Giles, US Graded stakes winners Nay Lady Nay and Grand Jete, Musidora winner Shutter Speed and Gr.2-winning sprinter Soffia.

Frankel’s winning sister Chiasma returns to Dubawi, while his Listed-winning half-sister Joyeuse, the dam of 2023 Mill Reef Stakes winner Array, visits Wootton Bassett.

KINGMAN enjoyed a tremendous 2023 with four new Group 1 winners and was second only behind Frankel by 3YO stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere. His book is packed full of Group winners and producers, which befits his status as one of the world’s leading sires. African Rose and Passage Of Time are both Gr.1 winners who have gone on to produce Group winners, while Scuffle and Nimble Thimble are the dams of Gr.1 winners Logician and Quadrilateral respectively. Young stakes winners in his book include Gr.2 Prix de Gros-Chene winner Brostaigh, Gr.3 Fred Darling Stakes winner Dandhu, Gr.3 Prix de Lieurey winner Fount, dual Gr.3 winner Pocket Square, Midday’s Gr.3-winning half-sister Sun Maiden and Listed winners Heliac and PetricorHelleborine (the dam of Calyx and Coppice) and Trojan Queen (the dam of Sangarius and Greek Order) are also returning to Kingman.

The roster is further strengthened by the exciting addition of CHALDEAN for the 2024 season, the first son of Frankel to stand at its European headquarters Banstead Manor Stud. Our new addition was well received by breeders during Tattersalls December Sales and will be strongly supported by Juddmonte in his first season.

Of the 17 Juddmonte mares visiting the Dewhurst and 2000 Guineas winner, 12 are blacktype performers or producers, and the remaining five are half-sisters to Gr.1 winners or out of Gr.1 winners. He is being entrusted with three of Juddmonte’s most proven mares - Deliberate, the dam of five blacktype performers including Gr.2 winners Projected and Headman; Exemplify, the dam of Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Expert Eye; and Shared Account, the dam of three blacktype performers including dual Gr.3 winner Pocket Square. Expert Eye and Pocket Square were two-year-old Group winners, and the dams of Gimcrack/Champagne Stakes winner Threat (Flare Of Firelight) and Blenheim Stakes winner Straight Answer (Straight Thinking) are also in his first book. Group winners being covered include Falmouth Stakes winner Timepiece, Nell Gwyn winner Hot Snap, and Prix de Sandringham winner Modern Look, herself the dam of Gr.3 winner Grand Jete.

Other matings for Gr.1-winning mares include Emulous, visiting Camelot to produce a full-sibling to the Classic-placed Bluestocking; Capla Temptress going to Dark Angel, and the peerless Enable returning to Dubawi. Frankel’s Fillies’ Mile winner Quadrilateral will be going to Wootton Bassett, while Zarak is the chosen cover for Prix Jean Romanet winner Romantica, herself a daughter of Banks Hill. Gr.1 producer Sacred Shield, the dam of three stakes winners including Matriarch Stakes heroine Viadera, is the first Juddmonte mare to visit Havana Grey.

Matings for notable 2024 maiden mares include Gr.3 Aston Park Stakes winner Haskoy visiting Siyouni, along with her Listed-winning dam Natavia; Gr.3 winner Juliet Sierra, a half-sister to Gr.1 winner Juliet Foxtrot, visiting Too Darn Hot; and multiple Group winner Zarinsk having her first cover to No Nay Never.
