The newcomer Sopran Tonia, who was a bit fractious before the start, led home a one-two for trainer Stefano Botti. He is the first winner in Italy for his sire CHAMPS ELYSEES, who is enjoying a good start with his initIal crop which include the stakes winner Avenue Gabriel.

Sopran Tonia is the second winner foaled by Zathonia (Zafonic), a 10,000 guineas purchase at the 2010 Tattersalls December Mares Sale by Azienda Agricola Sant’Uberto. Zathonia, bred by Juddmonte Farms, was placed on all of her three starts and is a full-sister to Zante, a stakes winner and a half-sister to Requete (Rainbow Quest), who was multiply Gr.1 placed in US. The second dam, Danthonia (Northern Dancer), is from one of the top-class female lines cultivated by Juddmonte.
The third dam, Monroe (Sir Ivor), a Gr.3 winner, delivered 14 winners, topped by Xaar and Masterclass, while her daughter and granddaughter produced the Gr.1 winners Senure and Cityscape, as well as the high-class sprinter and young sire BATED BREATH.
