Strathnaver became the latest stakes winner for the leading British-based sire OASIS DREAM when winning the Bewitch Stakes Gr.3 at Keeneland yesterday (25th April).

The four-year-old filly was a dual winner in England for trainer Ed Dunlop before being imported to race in the USA at the beginning of this year. She is now trained by Graham Motion.

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 26th April 2013:

In her only previous North American start, (Strathnaver) won an optional claimer going 1 3/16 miles over the Gulfstream sod on 16th March. After breaking from the 10th slot Strathnaver was content to rate off the pace in the two path for the first time down the stretch. As the field divided into two packs, the British import was unhurried in the latter grouping, running to the outside of Regalo Mia. Eight lengths off the lead entering the final bend, she shifted into gear quickly lowering that margin.

As Strathnaver angled out six wide into the lane, Regalo Mia slipped up the rail to take command at the top of the straight. The Orchid Stakes Gr.3 winner began to kick clear, but Strathnaver continued to rally down the center of the stretch. She sidled up to Regalio Mia late, running a few strides on even terms before she took a narrow advantage and kept on for her first graded win.

"I thought she was very impressive that day at Gulfstream," said winning trainer Graham Motion. "Like I said to [jockey] Joel [Rosario], I just wasn't sure about the mile and a half. But clearly she handled it pretty good."
