Off the track for eight months until June, the former Irish Listed winner Laughing took her winning sequence to four with an all the way success in Saturday’s Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont Park, one of ten Gr.1 events run on the day in North America.

The five-year-old daughter of DANSILI, one of her sire’s six Gr.1 winners this season, set a steady pace, which quickened in the closing stages as she was challenged by Mystical Star, but she was always in control and held on by half a length from the fast-finishing Tannery to head a 1–2 for owner Richard Santulli and trainer Alan Goldberg.

Laughing returned to action with a Gr.3 victory at Monmouth Park in June, followed up four weeks later in the Gr.1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga and added a victory in the Gr.2 Ballston Spa Stakes at Saratoga four weeks on from that. She is not Breeders’ Cup eligible and connections may bypass supplementing her to the Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita on 1st November, as her trainer commented, “If somebody runs a great race in the Breeders’ Cup they’ll be made Champion, but as far as anybody who has run, I don’t think there’s anybody who’s done what she’s done this year. She’s won two Grade 1s, a Grade 2 and a Grade 3 in her last four starts. Who’s done better?”

Laughing was bred by Floors Farming and the Duke of Devonshire, and is a 275,000gns Tattersalls October Sale graduate, having been purchased there by Charles O’Brien. She initially ran in the colours of Mrs John Magnier, winning a Navan maiden and the Listed Nijinsky Stakes, before being acquired by her current owner Richard Santulli and sent to the US.
