1st Dam: Solo Piano, by Empire Maker

2nd Dam: Flute, by Seattle Slew

3rd Dam: Rougeur, by Blushing Groom (Fr)

1ST BLACK-TYPE WIN. O-Khalid Abdullah; B-Juddmonte Farms Inc (KY); T-John Gosden; J-Robert Havlin. ,22,684. Lifetime Record: GSP-Eng, 7-4-0-1, $73,787.

Purser, who ran third in the Oct. 14 Gr.3 Autumn S. at this track and fourth at Newcastle in his penultimate start Mar. 30, defied a seven-pound penalty--incurred for registering two juvenile scores--to garner an Apr. 17 conditions heat over this course and distance last time, and was equally tenacious to embellish his portfolio with a first black-type success here. Sharpest of the five into stride, he was rousted to turn away the persistent Aurum after a protracted duel with that rival and had enough gas in the tank to withstand the late lunge of Mutaaqeb for a personal best.

Purser is one of two scorers produced by a winning daughter of Gr.1 Kentucky Oaks and Gr.1 Alabama S. heroine Flute (Seattle Slew), who is also the dam of MG1SP Gr.2 Goldikova S. victress Filimbi (MIZZEN MAST), from a family which features MG1SW sire Brian Boru (GB) (Sadler's Wells). The homebred bay's dam Solo Piano (Empire Maker) has also produced the 2-year-old colt Clavichord (Super Saver), a yearling colt by MIZZEN MAST, and a colt foal by Uncle Mo.
