KINGMAN COLT TOPS DAY 1 OF TATTERSALLS OCTOBER BOOK 2
A colt by KINGMAN topped proceedings on the opening day of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when selling for 750,000 guineas, the second highest price ever achieved at this fixture.
The colt, who hails from the family of Champion two and three-year-old RODRIGO DE TRIANO, was consigned to the sale from Adrian and Philippa O’Brien’s Hazelwood Bloodstock.
"That was unbelievable," said Adrian O’Brien, adding: "It is the first year we are selling stock whom we have been involved with since conception so it is very pleasing.
"We liked KINGMAN and you do need the stars to align, especially when you are using young stallions who have their first two-year-olds running.
"I was not sure what he would make, we decided to let the market find his value. He has been very popular in the run-up to today, and a lot of the main players were interested - it was just a matter of whether they followed him into the ring - which thank god they did!"
BATED BREATH also had a strong day yesterday with yearlings reaching 80,000gns, 72,000gns gns and 60,000gns. His highest priced lot was a filly out of stakes winner Polar Circle, consigned by Lofts Hall Stud and purchased by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock. BATED BREATH's yearling average for Book 2 so far is 51,400gns (5 sold), five times the fee they were conceived at.
