CALYX A FIRST CROP ROYAL ASCOT WINNER FOR KINGMAN
Calyx became a first crop 2YO winner for KINGMAN on the opening day of Royal Ascot, winning a 23-runner Coventry Stakes Gr.2 in very impressive fashion.
Trainer John Gosden commented: "His father was exceptional and he is very talented. I think for a horse second-time out to be left on his own for the last two furlongs he did amazingly well to win. It’s probably worth more than the winning distance. He’s a bit of a show-off and I’d love to give him a holiday now and bring him back for the Gr.1 Prix Morny at Deauville in August. I don’t see why he won’t be a Guineas horse, as he’s rateable and was relaxed enough early. He’s got a good bit of scope, but a bit like the jockey can be a bit full of himself!”
Calyx is a fourth generation Juddmonte homebred. Both his parents were homebred, three out of four grandparents were homebred and five out of eight great-grandparents were homebred.
