SUN MAIDEN TOO GOOD IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE OAKS
The feature of a seven-race card at Nottingham was the Nottinghamshire Oaks L. over 10 furlongs for fillies and mares aged four and above. It was won by the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Sun Maiden.
The four-year-old daughter of FRANKEL kept company with Savaanah (Olden Times), who set the pace. With three furlongs left to run, Sun Maiden was pushed into the lead by Jim Crowley and she galloped on to score by two and a half lengths from Shailene (Rip Van Winkle) and Queen Of Time (Harbour Watch).
This was only Sun Maiden’s second career win, the first being a 10-furlong Salisbury novice on her first start as a three-year-old. She was, however, placed in the Ribblesdale Stakes Gr.2 and the Galtres Stakes L. the same year, as well as the Middleton Fillies’ Stakes Gr.2 last month.
She is a half-sister to the multiple Gr.1 winner Midday (OASIS DREAM; dam of Classic Trial Gr.3 winner Midterm and
Height Of Fashion Stakes L. scorer and Ribblesdale Stakes Gr.2 second Mori), as well as the Nell Gwyn Stakes Gr.3 winner Hot Snap (Pivotal) and the Listed winner and dual Gr.3-placed Midsummer Sun (Monsun). They are out of the Oaks Trial L.-placed Midsummer (Kingmambo).
